Practice and background
Thomas has tried business cases in the Circuit Court of Cook County and in the federal court in Chicago since 2003. Most of his clients are companies with 20 to 500 employees whose owners would rather settle on fair terms than spend two years in court, and who need a lawyer prepared to try the case when settling isn’t fair.
Before co-founding Marlowe & Okafor, he spent nine years at a large firm on LaSalle Street, where he met Adaora Okafor.
He writes every client a phase-by-phase budget before the first filing, and updates it in writing when the other side changes the plan.
Typical matters
- Breach of supply, distribution and services contracts
- Disputes between the owners of closely held companies
- Trade secret and non-compete cases, for the company enforcing and the company defending
- Temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions
- Commercial arbitration
He coaches a youth baseball team in Oak Park on spring Saturdays.
